Tips for cleaning LED illuminated signs

Many shops opt for illuminated signs because they are such a stand-out – but the effect of them will be reduced if they are not kept clean. Most illuminated signs these days are made using LED lighting, and this blog will focus on how to keep signs of this variety in good condition.

Switch off the sign

The first step in cleaning the sign is to switch it off and unplug it. This is partly to ensure that it does not get damaged, but it’s also important for safety reasons. Electrics and water are not a good mix.

Dust the sign

Before you start to seriously clean your LED shop sign, you should give it a dusting. Wipe the surface gently using a cloth with the aim of getting rid of dust and loose pieces of dirt. Either compressed air or a soft slim-line brush can be used for parts of the sign that are harder to get into.

Clean the sign

You will need water with detergent for the washing. Do not use too much – you only require a little to be effective. Make sure to avoid harsh chemical cleaners too, because they can cause damage.
Put the chosen solution onto the cleaning cloth rather than the sign, and rub gently over the surface. Try to clean in circular motions.

Dry the sign

Get rid of any moisture that is left with a dry cloth, then wait until the sign is completely dry before you switch it on.
