Flame polishing in Manchester

When it comes to signage, the finish is all-important. It goes a long way to determining whether the eventual sign will look professional or not. For signage that needs a smooth and glossy finish, there is no better manufacturing technique than our flame polishing in Manchester.

How it works

To produce signs with flame polished edges, you need the right equipment. This means an electrolytic gas generator like a CRC Flame Polisher. You also need a gas gun or torch that emits a high-temperature, precise flame, plus torch tips and nozzles of varying sizes.

We prepare the signage material by sanding and cleaning it before the torch or gun is applied to the edges with a steady hand. The heat leads to the material liquefying before it is drawn back into a smooth finish by surface tension. The result is signage with dried edging that is glossy and glass-like.

What sort of signage is flame polishing in Manchester used for?

Flame polishing is most often used for cut-out logos or lettering in Manchester. The glossy edges enable them to catch the light in a way that is attractive. It is useful for signs and lettering that feature edges that are irregular or curved, or that involve intricate geometrical shapes. This is because the flame can get into tight corners and spaces without compromising the quality of the edging.

It can also be a good choice for shop countertop sign holders, flat sign panels or promotional boards.

What materials is flame polishing in Manchester best suited to?

The signage materials that flame polishing is best suited to are types of acrylic like Perspex and PMMA. They react particularly well to the heat, creating edging that is clean and smooth with a mirror-like appearance.

We can also apply our flame polishing technique to glass signage, although this is rarer. Sign materials that it is not suitable for include wood, metals and nylon.
