The best signage types for shop fronts

Your shop is open – and you want everyone to know that, as well as what product or service you supply.

When it comes to achieving those goals, the front of shop sign is your first line of attack.

Research shows that a good sign would make eight out of ten people enter a shop – so what options do you have?

Fascia

This is probably the type of sign that is seen most often on the front of a shop, particularly in the UK.

It takes the form of a panel or board with sign lettering that is attached to either the front wall or window of the shop. This is a good position for catching the eye of people across the street, but less so for people walking by on the same side right underneath it.

Projection signs

Also sometimes known as hanging signs, these are another common choice for shop fronts.

What makes these signs (literally) stand out is that they are hung from a metal bar of some sort at a right angle to the front of the building. This makes them highly visible to people walking along the street towards your shop.

Projection signs usually have the same design on both sides, to ensure the same effect from either direction.

Illuminated signs

These signs are lit up to increase their visibility and impact. They are highly effective at making people aware of your shop, particularly after dark.
