Development partner chosen for Manchester project

A development partner has been selected by Manchester City Council for a regeneration project that will be carried out to the south of the city.

The council is seeking to revive an area in the heart of Wythenshawe and has chosen Muse as its development partner. When this ambitious scheme is completed, it will provide over 1,750 new homes for people in the district and is set to cost £500 million.

Manchester City Council is stating that things will be able to move ahead more quickly now that a partner has been appointed.

A number of the homes that will be constructed as part of it will be affordable ones. This will help to ease the housing crisis within the city as a whole, although the development will not just consist of housing.

Spaces that are set aside for commercial, cultural and community activities are also part of the plans. There will be retail outlets and a square for use by the public among other amenities. Net zero targets are being deployed in the construction process, to ensure its environmental friendliness.

Work on the regeneration project is likely to get underway at some point next year. The council has put in place a 10-year timeframe for its completion. It is set to be the only positive energy district in the country, with energy production cancelling out consumption levels.
