Contractor chosen for Manchester student accommodation scheme

A contractor has now been selected to carry out the construction of two new tower blocks at a site in Manchester, which will be used as accommodation for students in the city.

HG Construction will be responsible for building the towers, and they are set to be 37 storeys and 11 storeys tall respectively. The completed blocks will provide housing for a total of 1,014 people who are studying in Manchester.

The chosen site for this scheme, which will be called One Medlock Street, is Deansgate, a locale just south of the heart of Manchester.

The developer behind the project is Greystar, and it will feature a number of additional amenities. These will include gaming spaces, lounges, study rooms, a studio for yoga and a gymnasium. They will be spread between the ground floor, first floor, 11th floor and 37th floor.

The site where the blocks will be built is currently occupied by a branch of Premier Inn. This is scheduled to be knocked down before work on them gets underway. The new tower blocks will be fitted with sustainable design features such as solar panelling and a living roof.

When it is finished, it will be within comfortable walking distance of both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. Students from both of these teaching centres will be able to apply to live in the scheme.
