Work starts on wellness resort in Manchester
Work on the building of a new wellness resort at a site in Manchester is now underway, after a Construction Manager was selected to oversee the project.
Therme Manchester will be a water and wellness resort and the biggest facility of its kind in the UK. It is being constructed at Trafford Park, with Sir Robert McAlpine having been appointed as Construction Manager. More than 1,000 jobs for local people will be created when the resort opens, and the expected cost of the construction is £450 million. The enabling groundworks were finished at the end of last year.
In addition to providing employment opportunities, Therme Manchester will also benefit community groups, charities and businesses in the city. The intention is for the resort to engage in partnerships with all of them.
When it is completed, it will offer a mix of water and nature-based wellbeing treatments and cutting-edge technology. There will be sustainably grown garden spaces, fitness and spa zones, thermal bathing areas and swimming pools. The resort will have on-site cafes and restaurants too.
The CEO of Therme UK is Professor David Russell. Speaking to Manchester’s Finest, he said:
“Today marks the official beginning of a once-in-a-generation project for Manchester and the North West. Therme Manchester will be a place for everyone – a unique destination where wellbeing, sustainability, art and culture come together.”
It is expected to be ready to open sometime during 2028.
