Work starts on Norwich housing development
Work on a brand new housing development is now underway at a site in Norwich, which will provide the city with some much-needed additional accommodation.
This development is being built at the north side of the city, on a site that was formerly home to a shoe factory. It is expected to cost £3 million to complete and will be made up of six bungalows and twelve flats.
The finished development on Mousehold Lane will be targeted at people who are able to live on their own but need additional support to do so.
The developer behind the project is Golden Lane Housing. The company will put the groundwork in place for the construction of the complex at the start of this year, with actual building scheduled to begin soon after.
Once it has been completed, the new complex will be used to house people with a range of conditions. These will include physical disabilities and learning disorders, as well as those with autism. The decision to grant approval for its construction follows the failure of another scheme proposed three years ago. That would have seen 45 flats built at the site, but it was rejected for being too large.
The chosen location used to be occupied by Diana Works, a factory that made MacLaren handbags for an international customer base. This closed down a number of years ago.
