Work gets underway on fire station in Greater Manchester
Work is now underway on the construction of a brand new fire station in Greater Manchester, with the promise being that it will offer cutting-edge facilities.
This fire station is being built in Whitefield, at New Bury Road. Work to clear the chosen site took place during May, and now actual building is beginning. The firefighters for the town are set to be based at a temporary station until the work has been completed. That facility will also be located in New Bury Road.
The project is being overseen by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS). It is just one of a number of new stations that are being built throughout Greater Manchester. This scheme was given the go ahead four years ago and it is expected to cost £38 million.
Among the many modern amenities that they will feature are sustainable lighting and heating systems. This will help towards the region’s carbon reduction targets.
Dave Russell, the chief fire officer, told Yahoo News that:
“The beginning of construction on our second new-build community fire station is very exciting. These new fire stations will provide a positive and engaging presence in their local communities while giving our staff modern facilities.”
The contractor that is building the Whitefield station is Robertson Construction North West. This company is a replacement for the original choice, after that firm went bust.
It is scheduled to be ready by November next year.
