Three pointers for giving your signage a personal touch

Most business owners understand that their signage needs to be professionally designed and manufactured, but they often forget about that “personal touch”.

It is not enough for your sign to be high quality – it also needs to tell people something about your business. Here are some pointers for personalising your signage.

Understand your brand

You cannot put personality into your signage unless you know what the personality of your brand is. To some degree, it will be influenced by the type of business you have. For instance, if you are running an independent clothing shop or cafe, your brand is likely to be quite quirky. On the other hand, if you offer financial services, it will be wiser to project an image of trustworthiness and competence.

Consider the colour scheme

The colours used in your signage should never be chosen at random. Colours influence our thinking, and there are plenty of studies that show their psychological impact. You should take some time to research these before deciding which shades to make use of.

Do not forget the font

The font style that your signage deploys will do a lot to determine what personality it projects. Some styles suggest light-hearted quirkiness, while others ooze authority and sobriety. Then, there is the matter of the actual wording. If your brand is all about fun, you might want to use some humour. Avoid that if your image is more serious though.
