Three outdoor signage issues to consider
The signs that you erect outside your business will do a lot to shape the initial public perception of it.
Signage that is clear and attractively designed will create the impression that your company is professional and stylish.
How do you go about achieving that? By bearing these considerations in mind:
What the purpose is
Before you can start designing an effective outdoor sign, you need to know its purpose. Is the goal to increase the visibility of your business, or to advertise a particular product or offer? Alternatively, it could be to help the public find their way around. Just make sure you are clear about the intention.
Where it will be placed
The placement of your outdoor signage is crucial, as it hardly matters how well designed it is if no one can see it. You need to choose a spot where its visibility will not be obstructed by buildings or trees. This is not the only placement issue to consider either – you also have to think about eye levels. Make sure not to place your signage too high up.
Making it readable
Visual appeal is important, but you cannot afford to sacrifice readability on the altar of it. If people cannot make out what the sign is saying, there is absolutely no point to it. Therefore, you should always choose a font that is easy to read. Sans serif ones are more legible from distance than serif ones, for example.
