Student accommodation project in Manchester moves forward
Plans for the construction of new student accommodation at a site in Manchester have moved forward another step, after winning approval from the Building Safety Regulator.
This project is the brainchild of McLaren Property and would be built by the construction arm of the company. The site that has been chosen for it is in Upper Brook Street in Manchester, and the completed scheme would contain 737 bedrooms.
McLaren Property submitted 1,500 documents to the Building Safety Regulator in support of its plans, and the Gateway 2 stage consent for work to begin has now been granted.
The divisional managing director for McLaren Property is David Atherton. He stated that this decision represented a major step forward for the project and was the result of a lot of effort and hard work by the team. He also stated that the Building Safety Regulator had provided useful help throughout the process.
Speaking to Place North West, Atherton then went on to add that:
“The development has achieved Gateway 2 approval in 27 weeks post submission, with no conditions, for a scheme that has two complex inter-linked buildings of scale.”
What will be constructed at the site is two large student accommodation blocks, both of which have a total of 23 storeys. The granting of Gateway 2 approval by the regulator happened quicker than with other similar projects. This could be due to changes that have been made by the Government.
