Pub in Manchester could be knocked down for housing

A building in Manchester that used to be a pub could be demolished in favour of housing, if the plans are approved by Manchester City Council.

Watson Homes is the developer that has submitted those plans and the building that it wants to knock down is at Moorcroft Road. This building used to be The Park pub, but is currently lying empty and in a derelict condition. Watson Homes is hoping to construct a block of flats at the site, which would be affordable housing. There would be a total of 35 flats within this block.

If the plans are given the green light by the council, those flats would be both two- and one-bedroom homes. The planned block would have four storeys on the edge of Sledmoor Road and Moorcroft Road, but just two where it is adjacent to existing properties. That design feature is intended to help it blend in more effectively.

This process would be further assisted by its red brick facade, which is similar to that of other buildings in the area. Speaking to the Construction Index, Rob Watson from Watson Homes said that this kind of brownfield development was its stock in trade.

He then went on to say that:

“This plot has been vacant for several years, and we’re pleased to be taking the first steps towards bringing it back into productive use for the community.”
