New tower block to be built in Manchester

A brand new tower block is set to be constructed at a site in Manchester, and it will be the tallest one in the entire city when it is complete.

The company behind the project is Nobu Hospitality and the finished tower will be 246 metres in height. The majority of it will be set aside for residential use, with 452 flats set to be created. However, Nobu will also have a luxury hotel within the building that has 160 bedrooms. The plans have now been given the go ahead by Manchester City Council.

Nobu Hospitality is partnering with Salboy on the project, with the latter being responsible for the residential element. They secured planning permission at the second attempt, after planning officers conducted acoustic tests in response to concerns about noise.

The chosen site is an area of brownfield that measures 80,000 sq ft. It is located close to the leisure and corporate heart of the city. The project has been given the name Viadux and it will cost £350 million to complete.

Simon Ismail, the managing director for Salboy, told Construction Enquirer that:

“Viadux will be home to the tallest tower outside London and a large number of high-quality affordable homes. It promises to shape not only Manchester’s skyline for years to come, but the city’s sense of identity on the global stage.”

The tower block will be constructed by Domis, with work beginning later this year.
