New school to be built in Manchester

A new school is going to be built at a location in Manchester, with the confirmation that the Government has given its approval to the plans.

This facility will be a secondary school and it will form one part of a wider regeneration scheme called Victoria North. It will be open to pupils of both sexes and aged between 11 and 16. The idea is that the school will serve those who move into the area once the regeneration of it has been completed, as well as existing residents.

Julie Reid is Manchester City Council’s Early Years, Children and Young People executive member. Speaking to PBC Today, she said that:

“It’s brilliant news for the area and alongside our existing secondary schools in the area is going to help ensure our families now and in the future have access to a great local educational offer with a place in a good school.”

Victoria North is a huge project and one that is already in progress. It is being delivered through a partnership between Far East Consortium (FEC) and the council. The project will see a brownfield site to the north-east of the centre of Manchester turned into a new community.

This will be home to around 40,000 people, with 15,000 brand new houses to be constructed. At the heart of the project is City River Park, which will cover 46 hectares – making it one of the city’s biggest green spaces.
