New residential tower block to be built in Manchester
A brand new tower block for residential use is set to be built in the heart of Manchester, with the news that the developer behind the proposals has secured planning consent.
This developer is a company called Glenbrook, and its plan is for a tower with 44 storeys. The project has been given the name Whitworth Street West and has now got the green light from Manchester City Council. When construction of the block has been completed, it will provide a total of 364 new flats. There will also be various amenities for the residents on the bottom three floors.
Other aspects that will form part of the development are enhanced links for pedestrians between the block and Deansgate and Knott Mill, as well as a green space for public use.
The next stage in the process will be to find a contractor to deliver the project. The Glenbrook development director Daniel Roberts stated that the company would start looking for one before the end of 2025.
This tower block will be just one part of a much bigger development that Glenbrook is carrying out at the site. It has already constructed close to 1,800 homes there and has plans for over 5,000 more.
The architects that designed the block are Sheppard Robson and sustainability targets have been factored into its design. It is hoped that construction work can begin during the first quarter of next year.
