Manchester tower block plans revised

The developer behind plans for a project in Manchester that would consist of three high-rise tower blocks has submitted a revised version, in the hopes of securing the necessary approval.

This new version of the plans increases the amount of accommodation the project would provide, from 400 flats to 800. This has been achieved by adding a second residential tower, taking the total number that would be built to three.

The other tower block would house commercial office spaces. The three towers would vary in height, with the office one being 18 storeys and the residential ones being 37 and 49 storeys.

Oval Real Estate is the developer that wants to build this project, which has been given the name Albert Bridge House. This is because the chosen site is not far from the iconic Albert Bridge.

There is already a tower block at the site, alongside other office buildings, but these would be demolished. Most of them are old-fashioned and some are in a poor condition.

Among the other revisions that have been made by architects Egret are improved ventilation systems and better views over the city. The earlier version of the plans was submitted two years ago and was given the nod by Manchester City Council. Now, the developer will be hoping for a similar result with this update.

A date for the council to make a decision has yet to be announced.
