Manchester office block to get rooftop terrace
A rooftop terrace is set to be added to an office block in the centre of Manchester, with the confirmation that the council has given the green light to the plans for it.
An application was submitted to add this terrace to the office building in Hardman Boulevard, which is part of the Spinningfields district of Manchester. The office block in question is a sizeable one, measuring 350,000 sq ft. Now it will be getting a brand new terrace on its roof, with Simpson Haugh Architects being the company that has designed it.
Among the features that will be included as part of this terrace are balustrades made out of glass. This means that people using the terrace will be able to look out over Manchester as they do so. There will also be seats and the creation of a green living wall, to give it the appearance of a garden.
The office block is currently lying empty, but it was formerly home to a branch of the bank NatWest. That company also owned it until it was sold two years ago. The new owner is a Luxembourg-based real estate firm called Parthena Reys. That company is believed to have paid approximately £70 million for it.
Simpson Haugh Architects submitted their designs for the terrace last year and they are just part of the plans for the building. It will be given a comprehensive revamp, including the addition of greenery on every floor.
