How to use colour to improve exhibition signs

An exhibition sign needs to be designed in a way that grabs the attention of those attending, so that they will be drawn to your company’s display. One of the best ways to achieve that is through the judicious use of colour. This blog will outline how to use colour to improve your exhibition signage.

Colour psychology

Colours are about more than just visual stimulus – they trigger emotions and ideas within us.

Blue has been proven to generate feelings of calm and trust, whereas red is associated with passion and energy. For this reason, companies that want to make the public think they are trustworthy and authoritative often use blue in their signage and branding – for example, IBM.

Equally, red is used by brands that want to seem energetic – think Coca-Cola.

How to use colour well

The colour wheel is the best way to work out what shades will work well together on exhibition signage. You have two options: choosing contrasting or analogous hues.

The first of those options will mean using similar shades that are close together on the wheel, to create a colour scheme that is cohesive and subtle. The second will mean going for high contrast colours that are far apart from each other on the wheel. This creates a more dynamic and energised look for your sign.

Which you should choose depends on the overall image of your company.
