How to remove vehicle graphics

If you buy a business vehicle second-hand, it may still feature the graphics chosen by the previous owner. It will not be possible to get your preferred graphics added until they have been removed; so, how do you go about doing this?

Assemble the necessary tools

Removing vinyl graphics from a car or van will require tools. You will need a hairdryer or heat gun, a scraper, adhesive remover and a soft sponge.

Heat up the vinyl

The first stage of removing the graphics is to heat the vinyl up, which can be done with either a hairdryer or a heat gun. Make sure to keep the heat setting low and start at one of the edges, until it starts to peel off.

Scrape the vinyl

Heating the vinyl will make the adhesive that holds it in place softer, which will make the vinyl start to unpeel. When that happens, you can remove it using the scraper. Do not try to force parts of the vinyl that resist though – just go back to heating those areas until they are ready to peel off.

Remove the adhesive

The next stage is to get rid of any residue of the adhesive that is still on the surface of the vehicle. The best product to use for this is a specialist adhesive remover, but rubbing alcohol should also do the job. Always rub in a circular fashion.

Wash the surface

The final step is to wash the vehicle with warm water and soap.
