How hoardings are made

You will see hoardings signage frequently during day-to-day life, as it is almost always used to protect building sites. Not many people stop to consider how it is made though – which is what this blog will look at.

What is hoardings signage?

This type of signage is made up of large-scale boards that are joined together so that they are able to surround the perimeter of the building or retail site.

The former industry uses them to shield construction areas from the public and to promote developments. Retail hoardings, on the other hand, are utilised when shops are being refurbished. They ensure privacy while also promoting the brand or its revamp.

How are hoardings made?

The boards that are deployed for hoardings can be made from either wood or metal. The chosen wood is usually timber, while for metal, it is aluminium composite or steel – but wood is more common. This is because it can be recycled, is easier to put in place and is more cost-effective.

Some businesses prefer steel due to its greater durability and resistant to wind and rain.

The boards are made to a standard height of around 2 metres and connected to each other. This way, they act as a barrier as well as a promotional tool.

Each board will have the company name, logo and slogan on it. This is not printed directly onto the wood or metal, but onto separate panels. They are then attached to each of the boards.
