Housing development scheduled for Greater Manchester
A massive new housing development is set to be constructed at a site in Greater Manchester, and the developer behind it has now committed to doubling the number of affordable homes.
This housing scheme will be built close to Beal Lane in Oldham and the chosen site is a former industrial estate. It was previously occupied by the Shaw Distribution Centre, but that has since been demolished. The project will consist of over 190 homes, of which 111 are due to be affordable ones for purchase or rent.
All of the homes constructed on the site are scheduled to be two-storey ones that are suitable for families. The application submitted to the council states that the completed development will provide a neighbourhood that has a unique but attractive appearance.
The houses will be a mix of four, three and two-bedroom ones, with some also set to have separate garages. The building work will also involve the creation of streets, with the application promising that these will offer plenty of space as well as trees. The aim is to provide a living environment that encourages a healthy lifestyle.
Bellway is the developer responsible for the project and it originally intended the affordable housing percentage to be 20% of the total. This has now been increased to 57% following a collaboration with Great Places Housing Group. The other 92 homes will be sold at market price.
