Homes to be built on Manchester brownfield site

Plans to construct a brand new development on a brownfield site in Manchester have moved another step closer to being realised, which would provide the city with much-needed housing.

Far East Consortium (FEC) is the company that has been selected for the project. Now, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Trafford Council have put pen to paper on a Joint Venture Agreement with this global property development firm. This will allow work on the development of the chosen site to get underway.

The land in question is in the Stretford district of the city and used to be a base for Greater Manchester Police.

FEC was the final choice of Trafford Council and GMCA after a conducting a process to secure bids that began two years ago. The developer will collaborate with them on a development that will have 750 homes built at the heart of it.

This housing is not the only feature that will be included though. There will also be amenities for shopping and leisure, office spaces, a hotel and shared facilities for those living in the area.

FEC Manchester managing director, Gavin Taylor, told Construction Wave that:

“It’s incredibly exciting to be able to formalise our agreement with the council and GMCA so that we can get underway with delivering the new vision for this regionally important project.”

He added that local people were eager to see something done with the land.
