GMI to build new Manchester hotel
GMI Construction Group has been selected as the main contractor to deliver a brand new hotel that is set to be built in the centre of Manchester.
This will be a branch of the Premier Inn hotel chain that is owned by Whitbread. The chosen site for the construction of it is in Rochdale Road, which is on the fringe of the Northern Quarter. Once it has been completed, this Premier Inn hotel will be 10 storeys in height and will feature a total of 229 bedrooms. The contract is worth £28 million.
Other facilities that will be created as part of the hotel include a bottom floor area for guests to check in, along with a bar and a restaurant. It will be the seventh Premier Inn to open in the heart of Manchester and will be one of the most sizeable. Whitbread is hoping to create further hotels within Manchester Airport and on the east side of the city too.
Speaking to The Construction Index about the project, Will Steward from Whitbread said that the site had been acquired earlier this year with the aim of moving forward rapidly, adding:
“Appointing GMI as principal contractor continues this positive momentum, and we hope to break ground and start building our latest Manchester hotel this autumn.”
