Four lettering styles to avoid for business signs
The lettering style is a crucial component of a successful business sign.
What you should be looking for is a style that is easy to read while also communicating key information about your company. That means there are some styles that typically be avoided when attempting to convey a professional image.
Curlz
This is a style that screams ‘quirky’, complete with cartoonish shapes and lots of curls. One problem with it is that it can be difficult to read clearly from a distance. This won’t be helpful when trying to attract new customers, and it also doesn’t really suggest professionalism.
Comic Sans
This lettering style has become a running joke on the internet. Comic Sans went through a period of being seen as vaguely hip during the 1990s, but is now regarded as a visual marker of laboured eccentricity and triviality. For a professional business sign, this font is best left avoided.
Arial
Just as you do not want your sign lettering style to try too hard, so you also want to avoid being viewed as nondescript. Arial is an easy font to read, but it lacks character and individuality, and you need your sign to stand out from the crowd, after all.
Brush Script
This italicised style certainly looks fancy, but it is almost impossible to read unless you are right on top of it. There are other styles that combine classiness with readability that should be elected over this one.
