Conversion plans for city centre building in Manchester
A building that is situated right in the heart of Manchester could soon be converted into a mix of office and retail spaces, if the council decides to approve plans that have been submitted.
These plans are the brainchild of Biz Assets, and this property developer wants to convert a building in Mosley Street. It is hoping to turn the structure, which occupies numbers 77-79, into commercial premises measuring 21,693 sq ft.
Almost 13,000 sq ft would be given over to offices, with the remainder being dedicated to restaurant and shopping facilities.
The building in question has Grade II listed status, so special listed building consent must be sought alongside the standard planning application. The hope is that it will be granted on the grounds that the building has been out of use for almost a decade and a half. Hundreds of jobs could also be created if the project is given approval.
The shop fronts that are a major reason for the listed status of the building would be restored under the plans. In addition, a brand-new entrance facing St Peter’s Square would be created.
Andrew Burns from architects Atelier MB told The Business Desk that:
“We have worked closely with OBI to make sure the office space and amenities retain the historic character of the building and set a high-quality standard to meet the needs of today’s occupiers.”
