Contractor chosen for Prestwich shopping centre project
Plans for the regeneration of a shopping centre in Prestwich are now another stage closer to becoming reality, with the news that a contractor has been chosen to carry out the project.
Vinci Building is set to take charge of the project to renovate the Longfield Centre in Prestwich. This will involve a comprehensive makeover of the building and is set to cost more than £100 million to complete. The pre-construction work on it was conducted by Chroma Consulting, but now Vinci will take over for the actual building process.
The first stage of that is set to be the building of a Travel Hub. When it is finished, this hub will have multiple floors, and it is seen as being central to the overall redevelopment project. There will be a total of 301 spaces for parking created outside the Travel Hub.
Other facilities that will be created as part of the project include a car club, storage spaces for bicycles and charging points for electric cars. The new car park will take the place of the one on Fairfax Road. It is all part of plans to make Prestwich one of the region’s major destinations for visitors.
Funding for the work has come via the Prestwich Regeneration LLP. This is a partnership between Bury Council and Muse. The Travel Hub should be finished sometime next year, after which work on the next stage will begin.
