Contractor chosen for Manchester housing development

The construction of a large new housing development at a site in Manchester is now set to move forward, with the news that a contractor has been chosen to deliver it.

Graham is the company that has been selected to handle the project in Great Ducie Street. This will see housing built on a site that used to be occupied by Boddingtons Brewery. The developer behind it is Latimer, which is part of Clarion Housing Group. It has been given the name Brewery Gardens and will provide a total of 505 apartments when it is completed.

The site that is being developed is right in the heart of Manchester and measures almost 1.25 acres. It is classified as brownfield land and the plans to build on it were granted Gateway 2 approval by the Building Safety Regulator. Latimer has now secured that approval twice in 2025, with the other project being in Leeds.

When the homes are built at the site, they will be given a traditional brick exterior. This is in honour of the district’s industrial history.

Richard Cook is the chief development officer for Clarion Housing Group. He told The Construction Index that:

“Boddingtons is a cornerstone of our ambitions for central Manchester for delivering high-quality, affordable new homes and a striking new presence on the city’s skyline.”

Building work will get underway during the summer. The development is due to be finished by the autumn of 2028.
