How to ensure non-illuminated signage stands out
The point of any sign is to catch the attention of passersby, so they can read the information it contains. But how do you make signs that are not lit up stand out enough to achieve this?
Eye-catching font
The font used for sign writing will play a big part in how well it stands out.
Any professional will tell you that non-illuminated signs should prioritise clear and bold fonts. Avoid any style that has a lot of loops or curves, or that pushes the letters close together. Also, you should make sure the writing is large enough to be read from around 30 feet.
Include dimensions
A 3D sign will naturally grab the public’s attention more than a 2D sign. One popular type of 3D sign is the kind that has actual lettering, or the company logo raised up via a mount, to make it literally stand out.
3D signs can be created out of materials ranging from acrylic and plastics, to metals such as steel or aluminium.
Colour contrast
Aim for strong contrasts, with a design where the writing is a different colour to the background. Good examples of effective contrasting colour schemes are yellow text on a blue background, black text on a white one and white on a black backing. It’s best to avoid choosing similar colours, such as gold on white or white on light blue.
