Building Dreams: Barratt Homes’ Imagin Park development signs

Challenge:

We were tasked with finding a way to advertise Barrat Homes and their upcoming new development Imagine Park just off the dual carriageway leading to the famous John Lennon Airport in Liverpool.

Initial site survey found the boundary of the land set a fair way back from the roadside, but the potential of advertising here to the countless travellers passing daily was massive.

Objective:

Barratt Homes aimed to increase brand awareness and generate interest in their Imagine Park development. The challenge was to design and erect two massive advertising signs that would not only capture attention but also stand tall above a dense hedgerow.

Design and Planning:

To achieve the desired impact, the signs needed to be large. 6m x 3m mounted on 7m posts, free-standing, and projecting above the 3m tall hedgerow lining the dual carriageway. The structural design involved steel posts, aluminium panels, and a robust foundation of 12 cubic meters of structural concrete. We wisely brought in a specialist company to conduct wind calculations and advise on the appropriate materials, ensuring the safety and durability of the structure.

Execution:

The project required a combination of sheer manpower and heavy machinery. Two concrete trucks, one crane, a mini digger and a cherry picker were employed in the construction process. The use of large machinery expedited the construction, and our own vans and concrete trucks efficiently delivered the necessary material to site.

Construction Challenges:

Erecting large signs such as these presented several challenges. The site’s proximity to the airport required meticulous planning and coordination to minimize disruptions to traffic. The wind calculations were crucial to ensuring that the sign would withstand the area’s variable weather conditions and the inherent health and safety issues were a constant.

Project Timeline:

Design and Planning Phase: The initial phase involved collaborating with Barratt Homes and the specialist wind calculations company to assist with a design and structure that met safety standards and could withstand the elements.

Material & machinery Acquisition: Steel posts, RSJ’s, aluminium panels and rear fixing rails along together with the structural concrete were sourced along with precuring the necessary machinery required.

Installation day: The construction team, armed with everything they needed worked tirelessly to erect the signs over a few days. Precision and teamwork were essential to ensure the safety and stability of the whole structure.

Result:

Upon completion the advertising billboards stood proudly above the hedgerow running parallel with the dual carriageway capturing the attention of countless travellers heading to and from John Lennon Airport and promoting brand awareness for Barratt Homes.

A black and green sign propped up with some poles. The sign says Barratt Homes and features their contact number.
